Sheriff Steve McMahan

Sheriff Steve McMahan started his law enforcement career in 2002 at the Mangum Police Department as a patrol officer. During his time at Mangum, he worked as a patrolman, school resource officer and the department's training officer. In 2006, he went to work as the Greer County Undersheriff with Sheriff Bill Runyan. He has also worked for Granite Police Department and the Minco Police Department.

In 2019 McMahan began working at the McClain County Sheriff's Office in Purcell, Ok. While at McClain County, Steve worked as a patrol deputy and was quickly promoted to Lieutenant and supervised the McClain County Detention Center under Sheriff Don Hewett. After Sheriff Hewett's retirement, Sheriff Landy Offolter assigned Steve to supervise the Patrol and Detective divisions. During this time as an administrator with McClain County he gained valuable training and knowledge that would later serve to benefit the citizens of Greer County. While at McClain County, he was also one of the department's public information officers and served on task forces including the FBI Safe Trails Task Force after the Supreme Court Bosse ruling. In December 2021, Steve returned to Greer County as Undersheriff with Greer County Sheriff Jackie Jenkins. Working with Sheriff Jenkins was a great honor for him because Jenkins had trained him when he began his law enforcement career 20 years earlier.

In April 2023, Steve took his oath of office as Sheriff of Greer County. He immediately began implementing changes that have proven to better the department and the service provided to the citizens of Greer County. He strives to serve with the honor that the Sheriffs before exhibited and to continue to lead this department forward as it makes positive impacts on the county and quality of life for the people that call Greer County home.

He and his wife, Ashton, and their children, Elizabeth and Eli, reside in Mangum and are expecting a new baby, Ellis Kirby McMahan, in January 2024. Ashton teaches and coaches in Mangum, while Elizabeth teaches and coaches at Burns Flat- Dill City. Steve has his degree in Criminal Justice and holds many law enforcement certifications. The McMahans attend church at the First Baptist Church in Mangum.

“I consider it an honor and thank God for the opportunity to serve as your Greer County Sheriff. I vow to lead this department with integrity and character and to equip my deputies with the tools and resources needed to ensure the safety and security of all Greer County residents. It's my desire that this department provide the citizens with the highest quality law enforcement possible and continue to impact the quality of life here in a positive way.”
